Transparency by design

Our Methodology

How we collect, verify, and present vet pricing data across the UK , and what we'll never do with it.

🚫No sponsored listings

Clinics cannot pay to appear higher in results.

🚫No referral fees

We don't earn a penny when you choose a clinic.

✅Source-first data

Prices come directly from clinic websites and published schedules.

🔄Regular updates

Data is reviewed and refreshed on an ongoing basis.

01

Where the data comes from

All pricing data on WhatTheVet is sourced directly from publicly available information published by UK vet clinics , their websites, downloadable fee schedules, and publicly posted price lists. We do not estimate, interpolate, or invent prices.

If a clinic has not published its prices publicly, it will not appear with a price on WhatTheVet. We believe that if a clinic is proud of its prices, it should show them , and we're here to surface that transparency.

A note on data gaps: Not all UK clinics publish prices. Where we don't have data, we say so , you'll never see us fill in a blank with a guess.
02

How prices are presented

Where a clinic publishes a single price for a treatment, we show that price. Where a range is given (e.g. "£45–£70 depending on weight"), we display the starting price , clearly marked as indicative.

Prices shown are what a clinic has published, not what you'll necessarily pay. Your actual cost may vary depending on your pet's specific needs, the vet's assessment on the day, and any additional treatments required.

Always confirm pricing directly with the clinic before your appointment. Prices change, and published lists may not reflect the most recent fees.
03

Search ranking & ordering

Search results are ordered by distance from your chosen location by default. You can also sort by price (low to high or high to low) to surface the most affordable options near you.

There is no paid ranking. No clinic can pay to appear higher. The order you see is determined entirely by distance or price , never by commercial arrangement.

04

How often data is updated

We review and update pricing data on a rolling basis. Our goal is to check each clinic's published prices at least every few months. In practice, high-traffic searches (popular locations, common treatments) are updated more frequently.

We also rely on the community: if you spot a price that looks out of date or incorrect, please flag it at hello@whatthevet.co.uk and we'll investigate promptly.

05

What we'll never do

  • ✗ Accept payment from clinics to appear in results or influence rankings
  • ✗ Take referral fees when you contact or visit a clinic
  • ✗ Show estimated or fabricated prices , only published data appears
  • ✗ Claim prices are guaranteed , always verify directly with the clinic
  • ✗ Sell or share your search data with clinics or third parties

Have a question about our data?

We're always happy to explain how a price was sourced or why a clinic appears the way it does.
